Junkee Media
Date: 2019-2023
Publisher: Junkee Media
Details: I first joined Junkee Media as their Video News Director in 2019. When I left the company in 2023, I was their Head of Production and I had been overseeing the production all non-written content - video, social, podcast - across both editorial and social, for their brands Junkee, Punkee, and AWOL.
My biggest goal at Junkee was to build out an editorial video offering, consisting of various different series, that easily loaned itself to commercial partnerships. Only a few months into the job, we signed what would turn out to be a multi-year deal with Meta to produce a daily news show, The Junkee Takeaway.
Despite that deal taking up most of my time between 2019-2022, I still managed to produce various other editorial video series.
Awesome Aussies
Awesome Aussies was a series I developed to showcase everyday Australians doing incredible things.
The idea was to mix inspiring stories with beautiful vision, resulting in videos that would loan themselves to being highly shareable on social.
Overall, we published six videos in the series.
Junkee was a publisher that proudly advocated for LGBTQ+ rights. Every year, we partnered with Wear It Purple to produce an editorial video series with some kind of positive advocacy messaging.
Wear It Purple
How It Feels
This lived experience series was designed to spread better understanding of what life is like for various people. Episodes included topics from living with endometriosis, experiencing Islamophobia, and sobriety.
Other Editorial Video Series
Junkee Reviews
This social-first video series was designed to leverage the Junkee audience’s pop culture interest, with each 90 second video reviewing a new movie, TV show, or video game.
The Artist Alphabet
The Junkee team had strong ties to the music industry, which was why we developed this interview series. In each episode, a different artist would sit down and tell us a few of their favourite funny stories.
Youth On Strike!
This 3-part documentary series followed young Australians in the lead up to the second youth strike for climate action protests. The series was a co-production between Junkee, Screen Australia, and Mashup Pictures.
